TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:

  1. There came a point when Kevin’s health was declining so much that she had to be honest with him which was hard because she wanted to be his biggest cheerleader. She told him “i’m not sure if we’re searching for answers or running from the truth.”

  2. She had always promised her kids she would tell them the truth about everything. And she was firm about standing by her word. When she finished telling the boys that their dad was dying, the only thing they said was “mom, are you ok?’

  3. Her kids had already accepted that they were going to lose their dad. They needed to know they weren’t going to lose their mom too.

  4. When she found herself questioning God and asking “God, how could you do this? How can you take him away?’ Her answer was “My God didn’t do this. My God put things in place to help me manage through this the best way I possibly could.”

  5. Everything that she went through, it got her thinking about her future self. She would ask herself these three questions:

    1. What does she need from me now?

    2. What can I do now to give her peace?

    3. What can I do now to leave her with no regret?

      6. Remember this lifecoaching principle “Each moment describes who you are and gives you the opportunity to decide if that’s who you want to be.”

      7. At the funeral they handed out kindness cards for people to do one act of kindness on behalf of Kevin Duffy. It was one of the ways they could honor him.

      8. A couple of months after Kevin died she stopped wearing her ring. It wasn’t planned or anything. But what was planned was replacing it with something that meant something to her. On her 50th birthday her friend bought her a ring that says “Love, Live, Inspire”

      9. The only way out of pain is through the pain and sitting with sadness. Allowing the feelings to happen is more important than the amount of time that goes by.
