Intro Episode: My Story
Listen to the very first episode here!
Welcome to the very first episode of the Widow 180 Podcast! In this Intro episode I wanted to share with everyone what this podcast is all about and give a little background story of who I am and why I wanted to start a podcast in the first place.
After becoming a widow myself in 2011, I felt such a mix of emotions and I didn’t know who to turn to for help in making sense of what I was thinking and feeling. I didn’t know any other widows who could relate and empathize and understand me. Then, a friend of mine introduced me to a widow that she knew and invited me to join a local widow support group. It was life-changing for me! I had found my peeps! I felt such immense relief and I felt like I could breathe again after meeting with these incredible widows. They became my guides. My “widow mentors”. They had paved the way before me and shared with me the things they did that worked for them as far as coping and talking to other people and what to do and say to the kids. And how to be a good parent, even when I felt like I couldn’t even take care of myself.
Which prompted me to start this podcast.
I’ve been asking myself for a while now “How can I help other widows?”
“How can I help them through their grief?”
“What can I do to help them see that there is light after the darkness?’
I started searching for widows who had suffered great loss, trauma even, yet they’ve somehow found the strength to move forward. I wanted them to share their stories and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. I found widows who have lost 50 pounds, started non-profits, run marathons, moved across the world! The list went on and on, my friends!
I feel so privileged to talk to such powerful, fearless women. That’s why I called the podcast the Widow 180 podcast, because these women have completely turned their lives around.
They have taken tragedy and suffering and loss and turned it into creativity and possibilities and opportunities.
I hope that you are as inspired by them as I am! Thank you so much for listening!
